Sulcoflex Secondary Lens Implantation (DUET Procedure)

Refractive errors can affect your quality of life, and several treatment options for these eye problems are available. However, even with a thorough assessment and quality medical care, the procedure results can change.

While refractive error treatments with intraocular lens implantation (IOL) offer several benefits, they also have certain limitations. For example, some lens used during implantable lens surgery only improves vision at a certain distance this particularly applies to high prescriptions or complex refractive errors but, you can opt for an adjustable Sulcoflex lens implantation .

These lenses frequently used for candidates who already had lens implantations but not satisfy with their vision due to remaining prescription or issue with reading so if you unhappy with your cataract implantation and its lense you can consider these lenses for more accurate correction of vision .Call Optimal Vision for advise

Sulcoflex lens also can be planned in advance as primary combine surgery called Duet, This treatment involves implantation of the primary capsular bag IOL and a secondary Sulcoflex sulcus intraocular lens. This procedure is carried out as a planned DUET procedure alongside the initial cataract surgery.

This DUET procedure is easy but may prolong the overall time for cataract surgery. This procedure offers patients an adjustable solution.

DUET procedure

The duet procedure requires Rayner’s Sulcoflex lens. The IOLs are specifically designed for sulcus implantation, eliminating the issues associated with two biconvex lenses implanted in the capsular bag.

The lens has special haptics and optics design, making it unique. The Sulcoflex IOLs have a convex/concave optic design, giving an average distance between 500 microns lenses to prevent interlenticular opacification. Suflcoflex lenses are also available in Toric and Aspheric options.

The Sulcoflex Trifocal is suitable for patients with pseudophakic vision after implanting a monofocal toric capsular bag or primary monofocal IOL. The eye surgeon will implant the capsular bag IOL during the procedure and treat the sphere to correct distance vision. Afterwards, they will implant the Plano Sulcoflex Trifocal, which consists of the Trifocal optics patented by Rayner with +3.50D for near vision and +1.75D for better intermediate vision.

Combining these lenses gives the patient clear vision for all distances.

Who is suitable for Sulcoflex lens implantation

You can undergo the Sulcoflex Trifical implantation procedure if you have high prescription(refractive errors) and want to achieve a clear vision for all distances. People undergoing cataract surgery can also have the Sulcoflex Trifocal implantation simultaneously.

However, a few reasons make patients unsuitable for the capsular bag multifocal intraocular lenses.

The Sulcoflex Trifocal DUET procedure may offer a good solution for certain patients.

  • It is compatible with any toric or monofocal primary IOL
  • It is available in 0.25 dioptre increments from -3.0 - +3.0.

Reversible and adjustable IOLs

The Sulcoflex Trifocal lens is adjustable, allowing you to treat many patients with presbyopia to meet lifestyle and visual needs. Unlike the refractive laser treatments and capsular bag monofocal intraocular lenses, The Sulfoflex lens implantation procedure is easily reversible.

The reversibility is a great advantage in cases where the resulting refractive change is inaccurate, or neuroadaptation failure occurs means there is slow or no adaptations. The surgeon can easily adjust the Sucoflex Trifocal lens or convert it to a monofocal lens with the DUET system.

Its advantages include:

  • Simultaneous implantation
  • Correct ametropia(remaining prescription) following cataract surgery
  • Reversible

Implanting a lens in anticipation of its removal may seem counter-intuitive. Still, it is reassuring to know that you can get your desired outcome regardless of the treatment’s result. Sulcoflex lens implantation allows surgeons to offer refractive treatments to patients without investing in laser equipment. The procedure is cost-effective and can be done alongside cataract surgery.

Versatility

With Sulcoflex lens implantation, people who have cataracts and vision issues like pseudophakic presbyopia means issue with reading or residual corneal astigmatism can simultaneously correct their eye problems.

Sulcoflex secondary lens implantation is becoming more popular for people with certain prescriptions that other vision correction procedures cannot correct. You can contact Optimal Vision on 020 7183 3725 to schedule an appointment for the Sulcoflex lens implantation.
